SERVICES: Kidney patients in the Peterborough area are increasingly able to have their treatment close to home rather than travelling to Leicester.

Peritoneal dialysis patients who need an inpatient stay are now able to be treated at Peterborough City Hospital and can also access a ‘drop in’ clinic there if they have any problems so they can get same day treatment.

In addition, a new outpatient service has been developed for local kidney transplant patients who require four follow-up appointments per year. Previously they had to travel to Leicester for these appointments,

Lead nurse Viv Chadwick said: “Our dialysis service is a satellite haemodialysis unit for University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and we are working closely with them to deliver effective treatment for Peterborough residents closer to their home, with Leicester Hospitals continuing to provide their specialist renal care.”
