PERFORMANCE: Portsmouth Hospitals Trust met all its operating framework, Monitor, CQUIN and internal quality targets in July 2012, with two exceptions: falls and patient moves.

Board papers for July show that the trust hit accident and emergency indicators, along with those for waiting times, stroke, cancer, diagnostics and cardiac services.

However there were eight amber rated falls in the month, against a plan of three, and a total of three for June.

Board papers said: “There continues to be a downward trend in overall falls, but an in month increase in injurious falls.

“The increase is not clearly understood at present… possible reasons may relate to the reported increases in patient moves.”

In July 1,017 patients were moved more than twice, compared to 935 in June, and 969 patients were moved between three and four times, compared to 895 in June.
