FINANCE: Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has spent just £103,000 of its capital budget for 2011-12 by the end of May, having planned to spend £2.1m.

The trust has a total capital programme of £9.1m for the year. Much of that is divided between three main items: a £2.8m allocation for replacement medical equipment; a £2.8m ICT services allocation; and a £1.5m allocation for “business cases and developments”.

The trust’s finance performance report for July states that the trust is “significantly behind plan in respect of firm commitments for the capital programme”.

The report shows that the trust is £2m behind the planned expenditure for the end of May.

“The major reason for this acute spend falling behind the planned profile is that the three major allocations highlighted above are still concluding the prioritisation of projects,” it says.

However the trust expects to finish the year’s capital programme in line with plan.
