PERFORMANCE: A quieter than usual December could be a mixed blessing for West Midlands Ambulance Service Trust.

Activity was 7.35 per cent down on the year before and contributed to a year-to-date figure of 2.35 per cent below contracted levels.

But Barry Thurston, director of service delivery, warned the board that this could influence contract negotiations for the following year if the impact of the unusual weather - which had reduced activity in the third quarter - was ignored.

The quiet third quarter has also helped the trust meet targets with the eight minute response to category A calls at 76.1 per cent.
