It is clear that the voluntary and community sector will have a bigger role to play in the future of the NHS and as Lisa says there is an onus on commissioners to look at how they engage with the local sector. There are many small organisations who can really contribute to delivering health outcomes and supporting our communities effectively.

I also agree that the sector needs to evidence it's work more effectively, however, I am not comfortable with expressing Social Value as a financial outcome: the mere use of the £ suggests social value is something you can buy directly: yes you can express savings in the system, you can put a 'guestimate' to the financial value of volunteers, but let's not consider social value in terms of £: otherwise we are in danger of knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
