As per anon 1607, the Nightingales are indeed a political stunt.
It was to stem any criticism around the fact that China could build two hospitals in two weeks, why can't we do it?
They would have been used if the lockdown had not been in place.
The reality is that if we ever need to use the full capacity of the Nightingale in any shape or form then it means that the world as we know it is ending.
Now coming to the flattening of the curve, a plateau at 750 to 800 deaths a day is a pretty grim scenario.
The more important is to model the impact of the flat curve when all electives are stopped and impact on the curve of commencing elective activity.
The catch 22 is that to start elective we have to reduce the ICU capacity!
And what happens when A & E activity picks up?
