I spent the last two days in the hot zone. I have a duty of care to my fellow clinicians to ensure that they are not needlessly exposed to avoidable risk. We Also have a duty not to waste what PPE we have and we take that very seriously.

However if the PPE runs out, I will instruct my staff not to put themselves and their families at risk due to the inability of the NHS to provide a safe working environment, and we will shut the Emergency Departments, as has currently happened in Japan. We will use what PPE we have in the ICU, and will have to reduce the threshold for declaring treatment futile e.g. no one over 60 or with any comorbidities.
