There is an interesting dynamic here: Hancock and his creation (NHSX) see this as a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the value of modern 'tech' for the NHS, whilst enhancing their credibility and career prospects immeasurably.

An app is the epitome of sexy modern tech - if it works. It's a world away from dull IT system clunking away in Trusts but actually doing all the heavy lifting for the NHS.

That's a big 'if'.

Assuming it does work, how many of them will hang around long enough to sort out the dull but necessary bits of NHS IT?
