I work with this patient group every day, and this is one of the few interventions that actually works.

The Stop SIM movement is similar to the shouting down of JK Rowling - there is a small but very vocal minority of people with a lot of time on their hands, who make it their business to attack anything or anybody that offends their sense of entitlement to do whatever they like, funded by the taxpayer.

The original SIM system is a great idea that (because it worked so well and improved patient care / behaviour and saved a lot of money) spread faster than it could be properly regulated. The problems that existed did so because the rollout was not properly funded or supervised and this is a failure of NHSE, which is why they are keen to sweep it under the carpet.

Let's hope that the Tories have enough sense to realise that this does for a select group of mental health patients what Katharine Birbalsingh does for education.
What should we do ? A large scale randomised controlled trial. Where's a fearless psychiatrist like Sir Simon Wessely when you need one to resolve the difficult questions?
