“AI holds the promise”

That is indicative of why AI isn’t scaling and why there is a mismatch of expectation over delivery.

We all want our problems solved but equally don’t need the snake-oil sales speak.

AI is not a product, it is a generalised capability that needs to find its use.

As has been seen time and time again, setting off to scale up before impact or more importantly cost-benefit and affordability have been demonstrated is a route to disappointment.

This article typifies the technologist perception of the world, that when a product isn’t adopted it is the adopters failing.

The fact that something may be possible does not make it a viable business from either supply-side or demand-side perspectives. Both of which must be satisfied.

You don’t need to be a Luddite or in anyway against AI to have the best interests of your patients and colleagues at heart.

Second bullet point of 5. is critical to pre-scaling. What most AI enthusiasts fail to recognise or challenge themselves over is ‘What would create the confidence needed for adoption of my product?.’ It definitely isn’t someone from a Royal College, however eminent. True peer to peer, not on a payroll, nor Professor Sir so-and-so, just a similar situated professional, and discussion is one of the most influential mechanisms.
