A “single national formulary” is the worst thing that could happen. At national level they will not do what we do a local level which is to rationalise choice. The SNF will list all drugs as available like NICE does without the ability to rationalise locally to the most cost-effective.

A dream come true for prescribers but it will blow the budgets of ICBs and Acute Providers.

RMOCs were initially set up to do this but failed when they realised they were at risk of a legal challenge if they only recommended 2 agents where there were 5 in the same class. They have now disappeared to be replaced by MORAGs

HSJ you need to do an informed thought piece about this and the potential unintended consequences.
