Virginia Mason has fully adopted LEAN methodology as part of their strategy - patient safety is an element of this.
Having seen in action what VM have achieved it is excellent. However, a total cultural change is required, sponsored by an organisations CEO and the board (who live, breath and role model) a dedicated project team to lead and assist frontline staff in implementing changes and finally medical colleagues who accept the changes.
AND the focus on investing to save is critical!
