After reading your report about the problems the NHS are facing to fully deliver the Five Year forward dream perhaps they need to look At best practise already there to be learnt from. If the NHS of the future really wants to put patients first, preventing future illness and dealing with chronic illness there is a way! I am one of those invisible patients who now has 5 long term chronic diseases, I personally have cost the NHS over £15000.00 in medications alone let alone all the tests, investigations, in-patient stays etc. There is nothing more I would like than to be well, be able to care for my husband and children to have a life rather than spending time at hospitals and Drs surgeries. If only we could look at the Institute of Functional Medicine you will not go far wrong. It is all about finding the root cause by carrying out (fairly pricey) very thorough tests then you work together on diet and lifestyle changes and hey pesto your body is back to its functional best. The patient gets out what they put in. Find the best teachers and train up all those Drs who want to move forward with the Forward view. Simple!! Imagine the money that could be saved and maybe use the delighted patient to spared the word and help redesign the new service, who else knows where the gaps in service better than them?
