STRUCTURE: A primary care trust subcommittee composed of GPs has taken on responsibility for most functions of NHS Rotherham since 1 April.
Newly agreed governance arrangements say the Rotherham Commissioning Executive Committee will take on duties including implementing the PCT’s “Single Integrated Plan for 2011-12”, and eensuring “required performance against all NHS operating framework requirements and all single integrated plan requirements is achieved” and “[ensuring] all financial duties are achieved”.
The PCT board will hold it to account for doing so. The commissioning executive’s members are eight GPs.
Board papers say the group has been advising the PCT since January, and “they have agreed to take lead responsibility from April 2011 onwards for the commissioning of services”.
The PCT has therefore now undertaken to indemnify the GP members against liability for decisions taken as part of the executive.
