PERFORMANCE: The Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust consistently performed worse than target on two key maternity performance indicators this year.

The trust’s caesarean section rate rose from 26 per cent at the end of 2011-12 to 27 per cent in quarter three of 2012-13, against a target of 24 per cent.

Meanwhile its rate of normal births stood at 59 per cent for two of the first three quarters of the year, against a standard of 63 per cent.

However the Royal Berkshire’s percentage of vaginal births following a caesarean section has been above target since quarter one, reaching 76 per cent in quarter three compared with a target of 70 per cent.
