FINANCE: NHS Sandwell has asked NHS West Midlands for £8.9m of the region’s top-sliced funds set aside for non-recurrent spending.

Under the 2011-12 operating framework, 2 per cent of PCT recurrent budgets are being withheld by SHAs to pay for non-recurrent costs associated with the transition and can only be accessed via a business case.

It wants to use £7.7m to support the agreed Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust contract for 2011-12, and a further £1.2m to enable mental health service
redesign.

The outcome of the strategic health authority approval process will be communicated over the next few weeks.
