FINANCE: Sheffield PCT has delivered a small surplus of £499k in 2010-11 after a very difficult financial year.

A board paper says: “The reported position is a £499k surplus or 0.05% of total resources of which most (£485k) has been generated by PCT’s provider services arm.

“This very small overall surplus is in line with the forecast at month 11 but falls short of the [original] planned surplus and is after using all of the remaining £10m reserves held in the strategic investment fund with [NHS Yorkshire and the Humber]. This underlines how challenging it has been to deliver financial breakeven this year.”
