STRUCTURE: Somerset Partnership Foundation Trust has taken on statutory responsibility for NHS Somerset’s provider arm, a month later than originally planned.
The merging of the mental health trust with Somerset Community Health, the former community service arm of NHS Somerset, sees the creation of a new integrated health and social care organisation, employing over 3,800 staff and with an annual budget in excess of £150 million.
The transfer, as part of the transforming community services programme, had orginally been due to take place on 1 July but was delayed as Somerset Partnership had to agree some new financial arrangements with its bank as part of the due diligence process.
Somerset Partnership Foundation Trust will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the county’s 13 community hospitals, community nursing and a wide range of other community health services, as well as the specialist mental health and learning disability services it currently provides across the county.
