FINANCE: NHS South East Essex has chosen not to apply a national marginal rate for over-performance to Southend University Hospital, according to board papers.

Commissioners have been encouraged nationally to only pay 30 per cent of the tariff value for any activity above the amount agreed in contracts. But South East Essex has agree to apply a “local threshold” of 50 per cent.

An update on savings plans in the PCT’s finance report for July also warned: “Whilst initial estimates of forecast delivery look promising, a significant element of the quality, innovation, productivity and prevention(QIPP) plan is assumed to be delivered later in the financial year.”
