FINANCE: South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare Foundation Trust had a surplus of £8.26m on income and expenditure as of 31 December.

Underspending on staff wages and “non-pay expenditure” in the first three quarters of 2014-15 was £4.3m and £1.9m respectively.

The savings on wages were especially high in forensic services, mental health services and facilities and estates because of staff vacancies.

Jayne Deaville, director of finance and performance at the trust, said: “The trust is currently forecasting to deliver against all financial metrics for 2014-15. On this basis the trust is forecasting to retain a continuity of service risk rating of 4.”
