PERFORMANCE: South Tyneside FT reported “outstanding” performance on infection control in 2011-12 in an annual quality review.

The trust had just 13 cases of C difficile in 2011-12 against a target of no more than 15, while there were no cases of MRSA against a PCT target of no more than two, says a report to the trust’s Council of Governors.

“This was an outstanding achievement,” says the report. “This clearly demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the highest standards of infection control and places us among the top performing trusts nationally.”

The trust has agreed a target of having no more than nine cases of C difficile in 2012-13 and an “extremely challenging” target of no more than one case of MRSA.
