PERFORMANCE: A diagnostic service run from a primary care centre in Essex has been criticised by the Care Quality Commission for not carrying out pre-employment checks on staff.
The service at Purfleet Care Centre is run by Lakeside Medical Diagnostics and provides scanning services to NHS patients.
The CQC found that the staff were not always fully checked before they were employed in the centre - although they were employed elsewhere in the NHS part of the time.
Nor were the staff being offered adequate support for their new role in different premises. There was not enough information available about the ultrasound service for patients and some information on the website was out of date. The CQC judged that these areas all had a minor impact on patients.
