STRUCTURE: South West Essex and South East Essex could share financial risk around specialised commissioning, as part of primary care trust clustering arrangements.

The two PCTs have a shared chief executive and are merging management teams, but are also looking to share risk, according to the minutes of South West Essex’s January board meeting.

The minutes note that non-executive director Jonathan Cope asked about the prospects for risk sharing around specialised commissioning group issues between PCTs.

Chief executive Andrew Pike said he ”thought it unlikely on a collective basis this year but a local South Essex arrangement was being explored”.

“Collective risk sharing would be discussed with the specialised commissioning group in the coming months,” the minutes said.
