STRUCTURE: A consultation into changes to mental health services in Hampshire has been “paused” after concerns were raised over the closure of one inpatient unit.
Board papers for the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth primary care trust cluster say: “The proposed closure of Woodhaven [mental health centre] attracted both media and political interest.
“Concerns were raised regarding the proposed closure prior to an enhanced community services being in place.
“As a result of this Southern Health Foundation Trust paused the programme of change in order to pilot initiatives and produce evidence that a reduction in beds would not put untenable pressure on community services or carers.
“The Hampshire Health Overview and Scrutiny Committees in Hampshire and Southampton supported this move and intend to review the results at the end of January 2012.
“The closure of Copper Beeches has been approved by the HOSC and is due to close at the end of January”.
