PERFORMANCE: The 62-day referral-to-treatment waiting target for cancer patients remains a “significant risk and challenge for the trust”, its latest performance report states.

The report states that it breached the 62 day RTT threshold for GP referrals in September, failing the target for quarter two of 2012-13. It adds: “Failure of quarter three would mean a red override against [foundation trust regulator] Monitor’s Compliance Framework.”

It goes on to state: “Performance monitoring indicates that the trust is likely to be compliant in October for all cancer targets however increased demand and related capacity issues, in addition to the unexpected breakdown of the CT scanner continue to threaten performance. This target remains a significant risk and challenge to the trust.”

Average monthly demand from GP referrals has risen from 518 between July 2010 and September 2011 to 589 between October 2011 and October 2012, the report adds.
