Steve Dunn

Dr Stephen Dunn is chief executive of West Suffolk Foundation Trust. West Suffolk Hospital has recently been rated highly by the Care Quality Commission, has also been ranked as the fourth most efficient in the NHS and was identified as one of 12 national global digital exemplar sites to lead digitisation across the NHS.

Dr Dunn worked for a number of years in the Department of Health, where he played a key part in the Wanless Review, the establishment of foundation trusts, and the White Paper Our health, our care, our say. He was also the architect of the innovative Hinchingbrooke franchise and introduced the Friends and Family test into the NHS, which was endorsed by the Prime Minister for wider roll-out.

Prior to joining West Suffolk, Dr Dunn was a national director at the Trust Development Authority, overseeing 24 NHS trusts and £8 billion of health care spend in the south region.

In 2011, Dr Dunn received the ‘Outstanding Contribution by an Individual’ award from Health Investor. He is also an international authority on the economics of John Kenneth Galbraith, having published The economics of John Kenneth Galbraith with Cambridge University Press and the four-volume reference collection, John Kenneth Galbraith: the economic legacy with Routledge.

In 2000, Dr Dunn received the prestigious K William Kapp prize from one of Europe’s largest economics associations. He is a visiting professor at the London School of Economics and the University of the West of England.
