STRUCTURE: A nurse-led minor injuries service which treated 23,500 people a year is to close because it led to “increased demands and costs”.

NHS Suffolk took the decision to close the Riverside minor injuries unit in Ipswich. It says closure will save £400,000 a year and allow additional investment in A&E facilities in Ipswich Hospital.

The centre opened in 2006 but the PCT says it led to some people seeking treatment who would otherwise have been seen in general practice or pharmacies, rather than diverting these patients from A&E.
