FINANCE: Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust has won a £400,000 grant to spend on its maternity department at East Surrey Hospital.
The money will be spent increasing the numbers of birthing pools from one to four. One of which will go into the high risk area so women with complications during labour will also have the chance to use a pool.
Work in the department will start straight away and should be finished by the end of March.
The award is part of a £25m investment programme by the NHS in maternity facilities. The trust won the grant with the help of 430 who people filled out surveys supporting the unit.
Trust chief executive Michael Wilson said: “I am delighted that East Surrey has been awarded the grant. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who made this happen.”
