FINANCE: Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust recorded an operating deficit of £52,000 in January, taking the year to date position to a surplus of just £7,000.

Latest board papers said: “The shortfall was the result of financial pressures within secondary commissioning budgets, medical director budgets, and non pay overspends due to unachieved cost improvement targets.”

The £7,000 represents a year to date variance from plan of £4.5m.

In January the trust recorded an overall financial risk rating of 3.

Board papers said: “As a result of the trust’s continued underperformance, the income and expenditure ratings remain at 2, and the trust is only able to report a risk rating of 3 due to its strong liquidity position.”
