- NED David Holt to chair Whittington Health Trust for three months while NHS Improvement looks for new recruit
- Predecessor’s term was due to end in September but stepped down in late June
A north London trust has appointed a non-executive director as interim chair after its chair stepped down three months early.
David Holt, who has been an NED at the Whittington Health Trust for four years, will take over from Steve Hitchins for three months while NHS Improvement carries out a recruitment process for a substantive replacement.
Mr Hitchins told the Whittington board in late June he would be stepping down immediately from the post he had filled for five years. His term was due to end in September this year and HSJ understands he left after NHSI told him he would not be reappointed for another stint.
Mr Holt is also an NED for other public sector bodies, including north London mental health trust The Tavistock and Portman Foundation Trust, and has 20 years of board experience in the private sector.
The Whittington’s chief executive Siobhan Harrington said: “As a member of the Whittington Health board, he has provided us with helpful and insightful service over the past four years.
“His considerable experience in senior roles at a number of organisations and as a non-executive director in the public sector will be invaluable as he fills this role for the next few months.”
