Circle has been selected as preferred bidder to provide services from the Nottingham NHS treatment centre for a further five years, the company has announced.

HSJ understands three bids made it to the final round of bidding and Circle was chosen over Ramsay Healthcare and Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.

The original tender document said the contract was worth between £22m and £42m.

The deal is a major boost for the company which has generated a substantial proportion of its revenue from the Nottingham contract and has recently missed its financial targets at its NHS hospital Hinchingbrooke Health Care Trust.

Further details on the contractual terms and expected revenues will be finalised in the coming weeks and will be announced in due course.

The previous contract stipulated that the treatment centre’s services be re-tendered after a five-year period.

The decision to award the contract to Circle follows a seven-month tender process managed by NHS Midlands and East’s Strategic Projects Team on behalf of Principia Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group.

Five providers – Circle, Care UK, Spire Healthcare, Ramsay Healthcare and Nottingham University Hospitals Trust – past the pre-qualification stage last year.

Circle interim chief executive Steve Melton, said: “We are delighted that we can continue to provide healthcare services for Nottingham patients.

“This was an innovative bid put together by the local clinicians who have been delivering quality services on the frontline for the past five years.

“This decision is a vote of confidence in Circle’s cutting-edge model of clinical leadership and employee engagement, which is now benefiting patients across the country.”
