PERFORMANCE: The number of patients remaining in community hospitals run by Torbay Care Trust for more than 30 days is at its lowest level for two months, Decmber’s report to the board revealed.

The report said the average length of stay at community hospitals is remaining steady at 17.5 days while only one or two patients a day were being delayed at a district general hospital awaiting transfer to a community hospital. The good performance was down to the daily conference call and web-based monitoring of beds.

The report said: “This work is beginning to reap dividends and the focus is now moving towards looking at the longer lengths of stay being experienced by stroke patients. The average has risen to 30 days this month.”
