PERFORMANCE: Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust chief executive Matthew Kershaw has launched a staff engagement programme setting out four key areas.

The new programme of work, which will run from August to January 2014, is called our “Foundations for Success Programme”.

It is designed to involve and re-engage staff and deliver on four priority areas seen as key to creating long-term stability for the trust.

The four areas are titled: our vision, values and behaviours; our clinical strategy; our clinical structure; and empowerment, accountability and performance management.

In his weekly staff message, Mr Kershaw said: “There is definitely scope to learn from other hospitals but ultimately we have to talk and listen to our own staff, patients, commissioners, partners and stakeholders and decide what works for us.

“A lot of what we need to do in the coming months and years won’t be easy which is why it is so important that people feel truly involved and not ‘done to’.”
