'One in four people over the age of 85 in Oxfordshire are in receipt of a high cost package of care'
I read with interest the article in your 16 thNovember edition 'A formula for unfairness'. It confirms the views that many of us have had that there is something wrong with the grant distribution formula used by Government.
A very similar point can and needs to be made for social care. In Oxfordshire social and Community Services, we are projecting a 12% increase in the number of older people over 85 in our services by 2010. Growth in this age cohort is driving this increase in demand for our services. One in four people over the age of 85 in Oxfordshire are in receipt of a high cost package of care and we have projected an£11m increase in our costs simply as a result of inequalities, but there is a growing feeling that more weight than currently needs to be given to demographic pressures
