STRUCTURE: Warwickshire primary care trust is proposing to build a “health and wellbeing centre” incorporating a GP-led community hospital and social care.
The new facility would include a “modular designed community hospital” led by GPs, and an “extra care housing scheme”, designed to reduce dependence on care homes, provided by Warwickshire County Council.
The proposals are for the Shipston on Stour area, and would replace facilities described as “outdated” at the existing Shipston Medical Centre and Ellen Badger Hospital.
The centre would include inpatient beds, daycare such as dialysis and chemotherapy, primary care services, a garden for outdoor physiotherapy and general wellbeing, accommodation for outpatients, and diagnostics.
The centre would require 2.5 acres of land.
A feasibility study found that it would be financially viable and deliver savings to the local health economy.
