STRUCTURE: A business case of the development of a local general hospital on the Hemel Hempstead Hospital site could be prepared by the end of the year.
The project - which NHS Hertfordshire and West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust are both involved in - is dependent on decisions about clinical services at the trust’s other hospitals.
But it is likely that the LGH will either be housed in refurbished existing buildings on the site, or in a new build on part of the site.
The PCT and CCG have indicated what services they are likely to commission at the LGH but West Hertfordshire needs to finalise its clinical strategy, currently being “reshaped”, as decisions about services on its St Alban’s site will be interlinked with those around the Hemel site. It says it will continue to have ‘a presence’ on all three sites.
