NHS East of England has stepped in to arrange an “escalation meeting” at West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust to discuss quality issues.

An update from the strategic health authority’s provider development board (PDB) noted the trust had been giving itself a risk rating of red or amber red for five consecutive months.

It said: “The Trust was above the monthly ceiling for C-difficile and did not meet the national standards for A&E, MRSA screening and the 31 day cancer target in February 2011…

“The SHA medical and nurse directors met with their counter-parts at the trust in March to discuss quality issues including serious incidents, never events and HSMR [hospital standardised mortality ratios]. The PDB agreed to write to West Hertfordshire Hospitals to arrange a formal escalation meeting. This will take place on 13 June 2011.”
