STRUCTURE:  Kent has been selected as one of 20 national pathfinders sites for Healthy Living Pharmacies, which integrate pharmacy services with public health.

The Healthy Living Pharmacy concept was developed by NHS Portsmouth and will offer a wide range of NHS services.

This includes having specialist in-store expertise available in areas like smoking cessation, weight loss, contraception, sexual health, advice on alcohol consumption and support for making changes towards a healthier lifestyle.

The project will initially focus on pharmacies in deprived areas in Kent. The first Healthy Living Pharmacies is due to be in place in Kent by March 2012.

Jess Mookherjee, assistant director of public health for the NHS Kent and Medway primary care trust cluster, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to deliver the full impact of pharmacy on the health and well being of local people.”
