STRUCTURE: Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust has announced the completion of a £350,000 project to improve the delivery suite at Worthing Hospital, including the opening of a new birthing pool.
About 200 women a year used the existing birthing pool to deliver their babies and many more would have done so if the capacity was there, the trust said.
The new pool has been installed as part of the £350,000 improvement programme, which was funded by a grant from the Department of Health.
The grant was spent on a range of enhancements, including an improved layout, new ensuite showers, better storage, seating for a new breastfeeding room, and better facilities for the partners of women giving birth.
A key benefit of the work will be greater privacy and dignity, due to improvements to the reception area of the labour ward, the trust said.
