STRUCTURE: A new ophthalmology outpatient unit opened this month at Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust.

The new facility at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester is a significant step forwards in the trust’s bid to build a “centre of excellence” for eye treatment in West Sussex.

It will provide patients with a “much-improved environment, significantly enhanced levels of privacy and dignity, and a unit which has the potential to offer a greater range of services in future”, according to the trust.

The new unit has 12 individual consulting rooms, two laser rooms, two imaging rooms, a treatment room for patients where minor procedures can be performed, alongside a recovery room, a separate waiting area for children, and an area dedicated to orthoptic care.
