FINANCE: The trust’s contract with Sussex PCTs is expected to be £24.9m overspent at the end of the year – the second worst forecast in Sussex.

The Sussex Commissioning Support Unit made the prediction based on provider monitoring returns for the first two months of the financial year.

It said elective activity was slightly over plan, although outpatient attendances were significantly less than planned, while non-elective activity was under plan, and A&E attendances are slightly higher than planned.

The report also said the trust was failing to meet a number of performance targets.

For example, it was failing two of the five main A&E targets – time from arrival to initial assessment and time from arrival to definitive treatment – as well as failing on cancer waiting time targets and the 18 week wait target.
