PERFORMANCE: The east London hospital trust said the number of falls had risen in June and July.

A performance report delivered to the trust’s board said: “On reviewing the incidents for this year with the ward sisters we have a high incident rate in summer months associated with patients who have alcohol problems and are non-compliant with instructions of waiting for assistance when mobilising.”

The report added that new “ultra-low” hospital beds were being delivered this month “for patients who are unsafe in bed and cannot have cot sides used for safety reasons.

“It is believed this will give us greater safety for our patients going forward,” it said.
