WORKFORCE: Worcestershire Health and Care Trust has decided to recruit nurse consultants instead of doctors after struggling to fill medical posts.

A report to January’s board highlights spend on medical locums as a risk to the trust’s financial position of £250,000. The report said: “Two out of the four staff grade appointments were made. The recruitment plan in respect of the remaining staff grade vacancies has been revised to recruit nurse consultants.”

Other risks to the trust’s financial position highlighted were spend on out of area placements and spend on psychiatric intensive care unit beds, both of which were higher than expected.
