NHS Improvement has established a “talent pool” of people ready to be appointed into executive level positions across the Midlands and East region.

Providers can submit a vacancy they need filling to NHSI to receive potential applicants from the pool. Individuals can submit their own applications to be included in the talent pool.

Among those included in the pool are directors of nursing, HR directors and chief operating officers.

NHSI believes the pool could help reduce the costs of expensive interim staff and will enhance the “leadership capability of the region”.

The regulator said it created the talent pool because it had “a responsibility to nurture talent and think about how we develop future NHS leaders – especially in a shifting context and as systems leadership comes to the fore. That’s why we’ve created the Midlands and East executive talent pool.

“We’ve worked closely with the NHS Leadership Academy and NHS Interim Management and Support to develop the scheme and to ensure that an appropriate package of support is in place for both providers and candidates.”

Individuals can be appointed on a secondment basis or for a specific time period.

Candidates in the pool will also receive regular coaching and mentoring, and executive level staff are encouraged to apply to join the pool.
