SERVICES: Workplace champions are being recruited in firms in Suffolk to encourage their colleagues to give up smoking.

NHS Suffolk’s board heard the champions were trained in brief interventions and would be able to refer workmates onwards for more help.

The scheme, run by Livewell Suffolk, is one of a number of initiatives in the county which have helped 1,813 people quit smoking by September - 96 ahead of last year. GP referrals to smoking cessation services have also increased.
