RESEARCH: Stroke patients at Yeovil District Hospital Foundation Trust are taking part in two trials aimed at improving recovery.
AVERT (A Very Early Rehabilitation Trial for Stroke ) is an international trial studying rehabilitation in the two weeks after stroke.
It is a multi-centre study which aims to determine if very early mobilization of stroke patients in addition to standard care is more effective than standard care alone in lowering mortality, disability, and severity of complications at threee months and at improving quality of life at 12 months.
TWIST (Trial of Wii STroke ) is a trial which encourages patients to do home exercise on the Nintendo Wii to benefit their upper limb movement. It is being led by the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.
