STRUCTURE: York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed its board of directors is continuing to meet in private.
A response to an information request from HSJ said: “The foundation trust board of directors meets in private, with a summary of the minutes made publicly available via the council of governors… These are currently available up to March 2011.
“The next council of governors meeting will take place on 12th October and the summaries of the board of directors minutes for May to September will be published at that stage.”
The government said in June that its Health Bill, which is currently before Parliament, would require FT boards to meet in public.
It said “To ensure that the public can be fully confident in the openness, transparency and accountability of foundation trusts and can better challenge and scrutinise the delivery of local healthcare provision, we will therefore amend the [Health] Bill to require all foundation trusts to hold their board meetings in public.”
