Last weekend the Mail on Sunday ran a full page article claiming an HSJ reporter (Sally Gainsbury) wrote a news story in the magazine as part of a Labour “sting” to undermine Conservative health policy.

That is, simply, untrue, and a contemptible attack on the integrity of both HSJ and a first class journalist.

Anyone who read the article would have realised it was long on innuendo and woefully short on facts. Some readers sent messages of support to the HSJ offices, demonstrating they were not fooled.

HSJ never backs a political party. This objectivity is central to its reputation as the UK’s leading source of news and intelligence on health management and policy.

From time to time political parties, the Department of Health, regulators, medics and the occasional manager take issue with our coverage. That is an unavoidable consequence of what we do. But whatever controversies are stirred, our objective remains the same; to provide health managers with the very best information to help them lead the NHS to the best of their ability.
