Cambridge makes £800k loss

FINANCE: Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust made a loss of £800,000 in the first four months of the financial year.

A finance report to the council of governors highlighted problems with capacity as continuing to affect the trust. Clearing backlog activity had lost £600,000, including putting some work out to the private sector.

However, while overall expenditure had increased by two per cent on the same period last year, income had grown by four per cent. There was also positive news on the cost improvement programme with more certainly that it would be delivered and an increase in the percentage of the planned savings achieved, although total savings are £1.7m behind plan.
