Slow start for Colchester on savings plan

FINANCE: Colchester University Hospitals Foundation Trust made a surplus of £0.3m in the first quarter - slightly ahead of the planned £0.2m - but its cost improvement plans for the year have got off to a slow start.

The trust wants to make £4.6m savings this year but has set a target of £6.5m to allow for non-achievement.

In the first quarter, however, divisional plans only delivered £0.3m of a planned £1.3m.

“Finance has challenged and reviewed CIP plans and has supported the divisions to identify and develop new and additional schemes,” a performance report to the board says.
